Father Edward Sipperly
Father Sipperly

Our brother, Father Edward E. Sipperly, died in the early morning of January 2, 2013,at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Guilderland. At Fr. Sipperly’s specific request, the funeral will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Ed was born in Cohoes on May 4, 1927. He did his seminary formation at St. Francis minor seminary in Staten Island and at St. Anthony-on-the-Hudson Seminary in Rensselaer, NY. He also held a Masters Degree in Education from Fordham University. He was ordained a priest for the Conventual Franciscans on June 12, 1954 and carried out his ministry within that Religious Institute until he was incardinated into the Albany Diocese in February 1972.

Ed served as associate pastor in St. Mary’s in Hudson, St. Gabriel in Rotterdam, St. Catherine of Siena in Albany, and St. Stanislaus in Amsterdam. He was appointed Pastor of St Joseph in Green Island in April of 1977. He retired in 2002. After retirement he continued his priestly ministry as a part-time Chaplain to the VA Hospital in Albany and was generous in offering his services to help meets the spiritual needs of parishioners who were comforted by the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite.

Please remember Ed and his family in your prayers – and those of your parish – and offer a Mass for him.

May the Lord welcome Ed to the heavenly kingdom and may he be granted eternal life for his fifty-eight years of faithful priestly service.
